Trash Your Cache!
If you're like me, you live for Today, or maybe Tomorrow.
And you value disk space on your hard drive like nobody's
business. As for pages you've already viewed, the concept is,
"Been there, browsed that!" If you're really interested
in the page you'll bookmark it or download the source code
to view locally.
Why, then, is there like 5M being devoted to crapola you've
already seen and escaped from? Because your browser manufacturer
unilaterally decided that you'd want to flip back through a load
of bunk instead of bravely forging forward to unseen ecstacies! This
stuff, roughly the size of the complete works of Shakespeare, will be
sitting in your history cache should you get lost in the labyrinthan
maze of some addle-brained corporate webdesigner or lunatic-fringe
kook.
Some people, especially those with slow modems or those researchers
wading through mountains of errata to uncover a pearl of
wisdom, may find a big history to be functionally efficient,
provided they actually use the "Back" function. But if you're
like me and a certain italian racecar driver (who broke off his
rearview mirror citing that he drove too fast to be concerned
with what went on behind him) you prefer to curse the slow reload
time in some possible future than to rue the lost disk space.
